SIHHAT - II

In line with the grant agreement signed between the Ministry of Health and the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye on December 15, 2020, the Project on Supporting Migrant Health Services in Türkiye (SIHHAT-II) was launched. Spanning a total duration of 36 months, the project aimed to ensure the continuation of activities initiated under the SIHHAT-I Project.

The SIHHAT-II Project is a large-scale initiative launched to improve the availability, accessibility, and quality of healthcare services provided to migrants in Türkiye. Through this project, Migrant Health Centres have been established nationwide, healthcare personnel have been recruited to staff these centres, medical equipment has been supplied to primary and secondary healthcare facilities, and vaccines and vitamins have been distributed.

Under the SIHHAT-II Project, a total of 181 Migrant Health Centres and 10 Community Mental Health Centres were opened in 29 provinces with high migrant populations, employing nearly 4,000 healthcare workers to provide services addressing the health needs of migrants. Between 2011 and 2021, over 93 million medical examinations and 2.5 million surgeries were performed, over 930,000 migrants were treated by 112 Emergency Health Services teams, and 8.6 million doses of vaccine were administered in accordance with the national vaccination schedule.

With the SIHHAT-II Project:

  • The quality of primary healthcare services has been improved,
  • The capacity of Reproductive Health and Psychosocial Support activities has been expanded,
  • Educational and outreach activities aimed at increasing health literacy among migrants have been organized,
  • Preventive and developmental health services have been provided to disadvantaged groups through Mobile Health Units,
  • Training programs have been carried out to enhance the capacity of healthcare personnel, and
  • National and international academic studies supporting evidence-based policy development have been conducted.
